How do I enable notifications in the mobile app?

To enable notifications:

Open the Asteroid Alerts app
Go to the Settings tab
Toggle on "Enable Notifications"
Select your preferred notification types (Close Approaches, Potential Threats, Weekly Digest)

What does "lunar distance" mean?

Lunar distance (LD) is a unit of measurement equal to the average distance between the Earth and the Moon, approximately 384,400 kilometers (238,855 miles). We use this as a reference to help understand how close an asteroid will come to Earth.

How often is the asteroid data updated?

Our asteroid data is updated daily from the Minor Planet Center and JPL's Sentry System. The weekly digest is sent every Sunday with a summary of the week's asteroid activity.

Are the notifications real-time?

Notifications for close approaches are sent based on our daily data updates. For very significant events, we may send special alerts as soon as the information is available from NASA.

Asteroid Alerts uses data from the following trusted sources:

Minor Planet Center (MPC) - The official worldwide organization responsible for collecting observational data for minor planets and comets, including near-Earth objects (NEOs).
JPL's Sentry System - NASA's impact monitoring system that continuously scans for possibilities of future asteroid impacts.

How do I unsubscribe from email notifications?

If you've signed up for email alerts on AsteroidAlerts.com , each email notification includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click this link to manage your email preferences or unsubscribe completely.
